Spicy Matar Chole Recipe

I adapted the Matar Chola recipe with homemade Chola masala powder with some changes of my own to suit our taste. I enjoyed the taste of this Chola masala with freshly ground masala which makes it really delicious. My Hubby loves Potatoes, so I experimented with freshly made Chola masala powder in Potatoes and soaked dry peas. Hope you will like and enjoy !!

Preparation Time: 5 Minutes

Cooking Time: 10 Minutes

Ingredients Quantity
Matar/ dry peas 2 cup
Potato 2 medium size
Onion 2
Green chillies 10
Tomato 4
Special Masala 2 teaspoon
Salt To taste
Coriander Leaves for garnish

 

Method:

1. Overnight soak dry peas in water. Drain out all water and take 2 cup fresh water, add salt, diced potato and boil to two whistles in pressure cooker. Now heat oil in a kadhai or pan, fry onion till light brown.

2. Now add green chillies and tomato. Cook covered on medium heat till tomato is mushy. Then add boiled peas, special masala and 1 cup water into pan. Cook on medium heat for another 5 minutes. Chola is ready, Garnish with Chopped onion, coriander leaves and green chillies.

Note: How to make Special masala ?

Heat the tawa, take 2 teaspoon cumin seeds, 4 cardamom brown, 1 teaspoon pepper corn, 4 teaspoon coriander seeds, 7 dry red chillies. Cook for 1-2 minutes on high heat. Switch off the flame. Cool the ingredients and grind all these ingredients into mixer. Now special masala is ready. You can take 2 teaspoon from this mixture and store rest masala for later use.
